The faculty members of the Department of Pharmacology have continued to excel in research and teaching.  Several laboratories focus in CNS disorders, in particular drug addiction, autism, and schizophrenia, while current research also extends to cardiovascular diseases and cancer.  The extramural funding level has been excellent, considering the rather small kernel of research-active new faculty recruited over the past 7 years.  The Division of Clinical Drug Trials, directed by Dr. Glen Apseloff, has greatly expanded its portfolio of funding Phase I and II drug trials, and provides training for fellowships in drug development, an area of expertise highly sought after in the pharmaceutical industry.  Teaching continues to be the primary activity for several faculty members, leading to innovative didactic programs such as an on-line course in pharmacology, which has attracted a large number of students each quarter.
