I was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. I completed my undergraduate degree at Denison University finishing with a Bachelor's of Science in Biology, minor in Chemistry, pre-med concentration. My years at Denison were spent exploring all aspects of biology where I participated in a summer research project focusing on ecological factors and population studies on salamanders as well as a senior thesis project isolating genes encoding potential penicillin binding proteins from Burkholderia cenocepacia. I then worked for two years as a research technician here at OSU in a genetics lab studying somitogenesis. It was during this time that I realized my love for research and decided to apply to obtain my Ph.D. I look forward to learning all the different aspects of biomedical science but hope to focus on bacterial pathogenesis and infectious disease.
