Cancer Pioneer, Researcher to Speak at OSU Medical CenterDr. Judah Folkman, the widely acclaimed pioneer of research leading to the discovery that tumors require the formation of new blood vessels -- a process known as angiogenesis -- will be the keynote speaker at Ohio State University Medical Center’s sixth annual graduate and postgraduate Research Day on Thursday (3/29). Folkman, known around the world for advancing the concept of anti-angiogenic therapies for cancer and other diseases, is a 1953 graduate of The Ohio State University. He will speak at noon in the auditorium of the Davis Heart & Lung Research Institute, 473 W. 12th Ave. Reporters are welcome to attend the lecture and other events associated with the day’s activities. Research Day features the innovative work of medical and biomedical research trainees at Ohio State’s Medical Center. Presented in poster format, the more than 280 abstracts on display span the range of scientific investigation from basic science to clinical outcomes. At 4 p.m., Sandra Porter, a renowned molecular biologist and educator, will speak on the use of bioinformatics in biology education. She is director of education and co-director of research at Geospiza Inc.
