Applying for Admission

Students who are currently seniors in high school are eligible to apply for the entering class of 2013.  The Biomedical Science major cannot currently accept transfer students from other colleges and universities or Ohio State undergraduate students who wish to change their major.  Additionally, applicants must apply to and be accepted as an undergraduate student on the Columbus campus.

Competitive Admission

The Biomedical Science major enrolls around 20-22 students per academic year.  Enrollment in this major is limited and competitive; meaning not all students who apply will be admitted.  The average ACT of admitted students is 32 (SAT 1400) and the average unweighted high school grade point average is 3.9/4.0 scale.

Grades and standardized test results are an important indicator of success in the Biomedical Science major, however the major also considers many other factors including work experience, extracurricular involvement, interest in medicine, science and research.  Competitive students are interviewed before a final admission decision is made.

Submitting Applications

Applying to the Biomedical Science major requires that students complete two separate applications (only one more application than the typical Ohio State student.)  Submit the following applications before the published application deadlines.

Apply and be accepted for Freshman admission to The Ohio State University for Autumn Quarter.  On your freshman application, you will NOT see Biomedical Science listed as a major.  This is because admission into the major is competitive.  When completing your application you will need to list what major you intend to pursue if you do not do the biomedical science major.  If you have trouble selecting a major, we recommend you select "School of Health and Rehabilitation-Undecided."

Read and follow the Application Instructions for the Biomedical Science major.  All materials must be postmarked by December 1st to meet the priority deadline, and we encourage early applications.  Applications will be accepted after this date until the class is full; however, students who apply by December 1st are given top priority for admission and scholarships.  Please note that you will need to apply to Biomedical Science application before you know if you have been admitted to Ohio State.

Considering Applicants

Students who meet the December 1st deadline will be notified via e-mail whether or not they have been invited to campus for an interview by the middle of January.  Interviews will begin in January.  Ohio residents are expected to come to campus for their interview; nonresidents have the option of a telephone interview.

Applicants who apply by the December 1st deadline will be notified of a decision by the end of March.  Review the Application Timeline for more information about what to expect in the admissions process.
